Clean Traditional white or black gi (uniform). No mixed uniforms No jewelry during competition. Toes and fingernails trimmed short.

White shirt, blue tie, gray slacks, blue jacket and black shoes. For the efficency of the tournament, The Tournament Director reserves the right to use other black belts for officiating, but they must wear a staff T-shirt

Only kata from recognized Traditional Japanese and Okinawan styles are permitted. White belt through purple belt competitors must do Heian, Pinan, Taikyoku, Tioshi shodan, Konchabo and Fukyugata kata. Brown and black belts can perform any Traditional Kata. Kata will be scored by flags for all belts. All kyu rank forms will perform SIMUTANEOUS MATCH KATA IN ORDER TO GIVE THE CONTESTANTS MORE EXPERIENCE. ADVANCE KATA WILL PERFORM KATA SEPARATELY. Black belts must have (3) different kata to perform.

Modified WKF rules. No contact is permitted to the face, head, neck, groin or elbow or knee joints. Exceptions: Light TOUCH to head areas in junior and adult advanced divisions. Any technique that endangers the safety of an opponent (such as dangerous throws, wild swings, punches or kicks going passed your opponent) may result in disqualification. Matches will be 1 ½ minutes in duration RUNNING TIME for all competitors under the advanced level . Time only stopped by Chief Referee. All advanced level matches will run for 2 minutes STOP TIME. Over 35+ divisions will be running time for 2 minutes. (8) Full points or most points at the end of time limit. In the event of a tie, the competitors will be judged on their overall performance. Any penalties will carry over from the initial performance.

Mandatory: Groin cup (males), mouth piece, padded hand gear, chest protectors (females). Padded foot gear, head gear and shin/instep guards are allowed. Safety glasses with a restraining band and soft contact lenses will be allowed only.

Coaching will be allowed by registered coaches only sitting in the appropriate coaches chair. Coaching will only be allowed when the competitor has returned to the starting position. The Chief referee upon consultation with the Tournament Director and/or the Chief Arbitrator has the right to dismiss a coach from the floor for inappropriate coaching. NYTKL Coach’s registration is available for instructors for an annual fee of $25.00. Checks for coaches fees made payable to NYTKL.

THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE OR COMBINE DIVISIONS IF LESS THAN THREE COMPETITORS ARE PRESENT. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
