Dear Sensei and or Competitor:

We are happy to announce that we will host HaraKenkojuku’s Liberty Classic.
The competition will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at
York College, City University New York, Jamaica, NY 11434.

As being a Sensei and competitor, I have seen a lot of changes in the area of karate competition.  I sincerely
hope that the changes and additions that we are implementing will become the standard for competition in
New York, as well as the United States.  The competition is focused of the competitor and the spectator as
well.  We also hope to encourage the beginner as well as the senior (35+) competitor to come to love Karate
Competition and get the joys and fulfillment as I have had in the past.  To encourage the new competitor, we
have a Special Division for non-sparring White Belts (less than (4) months training. This division will score
kata upon completion of the first (8) moves of their respective basic kata only.  It will be scored upon focus,
balance, spirit, speed and strength. They will also do Ippon Kumite (one block and counter) against a low,
mid and high punch attack.  We will have a 35+ and a 45+ division for women and men for kata and kumite.
To further encourage the beginner and the senior competitor to compete, we have reduced their entry fee.
We do ask that all senseis participate in refereeing by being dressed in USANKF  referee attire or a clean
white uniform.  We will allow (1) coach on the floor in the designated coaches chair per (5) competitors
based on pre-registration. Coach’s passes will be presented upon request, the day of the event. Coaches
will only be allowed to talk to their competitor, when the competitors have returned to the starting line.  No
other coaching will be allowed.  The head referee reserves the right to disqualify the competitor and/or
eject the coach from the competition floor or the premises.
If you need more information or have any further questions, please feel free to call me.

Yours in the Art,

Shihan Herb Wiles
